FARMOOR II

Bank Fishing:

As many of the fish caught at Farmoor are no more than 10m from the bank, it makes an ideal venue for experienced and novice anglers alike. The Ranger’s are only too happy to give advice on best location on the day and choice of fly to get the best out of your day’s fishing.

Boat Fishing:

There are 12 new Coullen 15ft fishing boats. Life jackets/alarms will be allocated from the Fishing Lodge. We strongly recommend that you book boats in advance as boat fishing is very popular at the reservoir.

FARMOOR I Catch & Release Fishery

New for 2008, Farmoor I will be available from the 5th April as a catch & release water. You will be allowed to take 1 fish per ticket, but we would like to encourage you to use this water as solely catch & release.

There will be limit of 15 anglers per day, bank fishing only, so booking is strongly advised.

For those of you who haven’t fished catch & release before, the Ranger’s will be on hand to give advice on best practice and unhooking techniques.

Rules:

  • Barbless hooks only
  • No lures over 35m
  • No boobies
  • Unhook where possible
  • If landed, use knotless nets and landing mats (Ranger’s hope to have mats available for anglers in the near future).
  • Ensure fish is fully recovered before release
  • All brown trout to be returned

Facilities

Entrance to the reservoir is at Gate 3. The Ranger’s lodge is now located at the far end of the Sailing Club building (up the ramp at the far end of the carpark, keep to the right which takes you to the rear of the buildings and the Ranger’s Fishing lodge can be found almost at the end of the brick buildings and is signposted).

There’s a small shed outside the office for you to sign-in and purchase tickets if the Rangers are out on rounds. You can park for 10 mins at the rear of the lodge whilst you sign in, please then leave your car in the main car park or in one of the designated car parks for anglers around the bank. PLEASE do not park on the grass or in the spaces for disabled badge holders!

Please note there is no vehicle access for Farmoor I (Catch & Release), use either the main carpark for fishing the East bank or the last carpark (No. 1) at the top of Farmoor II for fishing the North and East banks.

The Fishing Lodge

The lodge is still not fully refurbished – unfortunately they don’t have easy access to email or even a landline (Thames Water still organizing this 1 year on!! However, this is a small tackle shop stocking a limited supply of equipment, clothing and a large selection of flies specific to Farmoor and refreshments (confectionary and canned drinks).

Tackle Hire

Available via the Ranger’s. Please book in advance to avoid disappointment. Charge of £12.00 per day for rod/reel/line/net – tippet and flies can be purchased in the shop.

Advice and Tuition

The Ranger’s are always on hand to give advice should you wish; where’s the best place to fish, what flies to try etc. They're also available to give tuition, whether you are a complete novice or just looking to improve your casting or develop your technique for reservoir fishing. Simply enquire at the Fishing Lodge or use our Contact Us.

During the year a number of “Try Fly-Fishing” days will be organised for groups of up to 12, which include breakfast/lunch, tackle and if you’re lucky maybe your first trout! Again contact the Rangers for further information and dates.

Disabled Access

Farmoor is ideal for disabled anglers, with easy access to the bank from designated parking areas and also Ranger assisted access to the boats.
