A quick update on rod averages for the weekend incl.today, Monday.

F2 bank saw 62 anglers catch 272 fish = 4.4
F2 boats had 93 anglers catch 304 fish =3.3
F1 36 anglers caught 335 fish = 9.3

Farmoor continues to cook on gas ! the majority of fish coming to buzzers, diawls and nymphs and many fish taking in the top few feet.
F2 has produced a large number of handsome, grown-on fish in the 4-6lb class !
Tight Lines!

Thanks for the glowing endorsements Skippy and the sound advice.
Apologies for this late report but we have been experiencing some I.T. gremlins on the Farmoor system this week.

Rod averages for this week are,

F2 bank 74 anglers caught 200 fish = 2.7
F2 boats 27 anglers caught 215 fish = 8.0
F1 bank 25 anglers caught 217 fish = 8.7
F1 boat 4 anglers caught 39 fish = 9.8

Farmoor is on fire at the moment !
Favourite tactics have been buzzers and diawls on fairly long leaders, drifted around and hold on!.
The quality of fish I have seen this week has been awesome, with grown-on 3- 5 lb rainbows on F2 commonplace, estimated double figure fish on F1 and some stunning Blues and Brownies to (est.) 7lb in the mix.
One bag of 8 similar sized fish caught from the bank on F2, that I saw weighed yesterday, totalled nearly 24.5 lb.
There has also been plenty of surface activity with fish rising out on the res. and competing with the swifts for emerging buzzers as and when the wind temperature and light conditions allow.
It's been worth the wait.

Another brilliant day on F1. Bit chilly early doors and just enough wind to be a nuisance at times but with it being overcast the fish were happy to have a peck all day. Standard Farmoor tactics...long leader, heavy buzzer on the point, lighter one on the middle and my favourite red holo daiwl bach on the top....though for all the good the DB did I might as well have fished a sherbert pip ! Decent chuck and then fished as slow as the wind would allow. You know the rest...half way back and DONK ! Fish on!

A dozen by midday and with 18 fish by 2-30 frankly I'd had more than enough sport. I lost maybe 4/5 others where I couldn't set the hook properly due to the bow in the line when the wind got ugly. Included in my bag were two stunning browns the best of which must have gone 5lb +. I desperately wanted a blue for a Farmoor McNab [blue, brown and rainbow] but no luck. My mate Big Phil had 17 fish including my blue...the git !

As usual the fish are in amazing nick & fought like demons. The water is so clear its incredible to watch the fish fighting on the bottom 30 feet out. Most fish came to the point buzzer [flashback stripped quill] or skinny red-arsed black on the middle. Only one on the DB. I dont mess about...size 10 on the point and size 12's above. I'll go smaller when they get cute but no need today as they were having it !

Where is everybody ? I doubt there is better buzzer fishing than this anywhere and now spring has finally arrived its a beautiful setting. Swallow & swift everywhere & cuckoo calling from the woods.

Even Mark looked almost cheerful for once !

The rod averages for the past three days are as follows:

Farmoor 2 bank - 52 anglers caught 171 fish = 3.3

Farmoor 2 boat - 14 anglers caught 88 fish = 6.3

Farmoor 1 bank - 23 anglers caught 149 fish = 6.5

The water is crystal clear and the water level is well up. Fish are coming to buzzers but with highly variable conditions they are changing depths from day to day and also during the day. Today they have been quite deep.

Quick question, with the boats in at 20.00 but gates closing at 22.00; if I get a sporting boat ticket is there anyway I can keep fishing after 20.00 on F2? Would I have to buy have to buy an evening ticket?

Incidentally whats the reasoning behind no C & R on F2 from the bank?
rangerchris Posted - 09 May 2013 : 19:26:38
Evening all . The rod averages for the past week (29/4 - 8/5 ) are as follows ....

Farmoor 1 bank 90 anglers for 735 fish = 8.16

Farmoor 1 boat 15 anglers for 188 fish = 12.50

Farmoor 2 bank 184 anglers for 452 fish = 2.4

Farmoor 2 boats 83 anglers for 542 fish = 6.5

So once again Farmoor is fishing very well , with buzzers , diawl bach and damsels doing the buisness .
Water quality /clarity is excellent with levels at max:
The opening times have now changed to the summer pattern 08:00 - 22:00 with boats currently in at 20:00.
Finally a big thankyou to all the competitors who fished the England youth match on sat: (4th may) local pride has been restored with Mr. Evans winning the match.
Thats all folks . Farmoor Ranger .

Had an awesome day yesterday!

Started of on the causeway, with a flat calm, and the fly line sticking to the rod rings. For the first couple of hours, only manged a couple of plucks.

I then started to have a bonanza.

Had fish, or a pull nearly every cast for the next couple of hours. Most fish were taking a black size 14 buzzer with a tungsten bead, on the point. Then it would go quiet for a while, and all of a sudden pick up again.

They came and went throughout the day, and managed a couple in the evening during the rise, fishing a washing line with small buzzers.

The fish all went like the clappers, and although they seemed a little bit smaller than last season they fought twice as well, and I saw my backing plenty of times. My arm was aching at the end of the day. I just never knew what was on the end of my fly line until I could actually see the fish, they were amazing! My biggest was around 6lbs.

Yesterday had to be one of the best days I have had at farmoor in 20 years, could only have beaten it if I had been a bit more succesful when I tried the dry fly throughout the day, just couldn't get any interest.

The water calrity and fly life is amazing:

My mate was fishing F2 from a boat and said that the water was just boiling with rising fish in the early evening!

You may be interested in the fantastic day's sport I had on Farmoor 1 yesterday. I fished from the bank with a team of black buzzers on a 16 foot leader and floating line with the wind blowing from left to right. I ended up with 21 fish, 19 rainbows and 2 blues, most of them between 3 and 4 lbs with the two biggest around 5lbs. most of the fish took as the line drifted round but, if I didn't get a take, then a slow, jerky figure of eight retrieve as the flies came into the shallower water usually produced a response. What a day!

Morning all . The rod averages for the weekend are as follows...

Farmoor 1 bank 18 anglers for 101 fish = 5.6

Farmoor 1 boat 1 angler for 16 fish = 16.0

Farmoor 2 bank 31 anglers for 155 fish = 5.0

Farmoor 2 boats 37 anglers for 219 fish = 5.9

So as you can see the fishing here is hot ! With black buzzers / small nymphs /trad; wets and dries doing the damage !!!
The water levels are at max: with quality /clarity in excellent condition.

Good afternoon all . The rod averages for the week past are as follows ...

Farmoor 2 bank 75 anglers for 191 fish = 2.54

Farmoor 2 boats 30 anglers for 212 fish =7.06

The favourite tatics are still buzzers with some succsess on dries early in the day .
Water levels are at max with quality /clarity in top condition

Thanks for that Skippy,I'm glad you had a good day.
The sun's blessing continued through most of the weekend, bringing the anglers to the res. and the fish onto the buzzers !

F1 bank saw 31 anglers catch 139 fish for an ave. of 4.5
F1 boat saw 3 anglers catch 21 fish for an ave. of 7.0
F2 bank saw 48 anglers catch 152 fish for an ave. of 3.2
F2 boats saw 65 anglers catch 259 fish for an ave. of 4.0

Much improved figures,I'm sure you'll all agree.
We hope to see you soon.
Tight lines.

Fished F1 today. Buzzers hatching in their gazillions and every one seemed determined to find the shortest possible route to the inside of my earole ! When not shaking buzzers out of various orifices managed a few fish...9 in total with another 4/5 lost. Takes varied from tiny dips of the indicator to full blooded yanks. Very sunny so fish stayed deep all day...most came to the point buzzer on a 25 ft leader chucked as far as possible and just drifted on the wind. Not easy but enough happening to keep it interesting. The fish,as ever, are in marvellous nick & fight like bonefish. I didn't get any blues but my mate had 2 stunners in his 10 fish haul.

Super day's fishing.
rangerchris Posted - 19 Apr 2013 : 09:19:06
