Farmoor Update w/e 23/08/09

FI – Very quiet with few anglers although those that have fished have had some good sport. Fish to 6lbs on the usual buzzers, nymphs and small lures on a floater or slow sinking line. Rod average 5.0

FII – Fishing is now picking up. Algae bloom has died down and clarity is reasonable. Rod average for the week is 2.0 with some anglers struggling but some reaching their limits with ease. The secret is to try different depths, flies and retrieves during the day as the fish are literally all over the place not just at one particular depth. Best flies are large boobies or small PTNs and buzzers. Odd fish being taken on small dries. Some large fish are being spotted by boat anglers fishing near the cages, probably fry feeders. Graham Dudley had the best rainbow of the week at nearly 5lbs taken on a large buzzer with a buoyant head!

Don’t forget the Autumn match on Sun 27th Sept!

Hi Skippy,

Water clarity was pretty good when I was there on Sunday. Didn't fish for long and nothing doing for me (4pm - 6pm) maybe just not a good time of day. Had a couple of nice fish on the previous Wednesday evening though.

Well that was a waste of time ! Two of us fished hard for 5 hours Saturday am in quite reasonable conditions and neither of us had anything even remotely resembling a pull. This has destroyed my theory that no matter how hard the day is sooner or later you always get a pull.

Maybe the hordes of birdwatchers scared them off ?

Farmoor Fishing Report w/e 30/08/09

Farmoor I has been very quiet with few anglers fishing it. Some large fish have been seen fry feeding so the chance of a large grown on fish is very good at the moment.

Farmoor II has fished steadily over the week. Fish are being caught on most methods, especially boobies and buzzers. The fish are well spread out and feeding at all depths at the moment so a mobile approach is proving most successful. Best fish of the week was a 3.5 pounder to Farmoor stalwart Brian Hall.

Don’t forget our competition on 27th September. Contact the Rangers for details on 07747 640707.

Farmoor report w/e 13/09/09

The level of both reservoirs has dropped a little over the last week. FII is still pretty clear but there is some colour in FI.

FII has started to fish much better now the weather has cooled. The last few days has seen rod averages approaching 3 with fish being taken on small buzzers, GRHE, PTN, small lures and of course boobies. Boats have been fishing well with fish to 4lb being taken mainly on boobies.

FI is still quiet but those anglers fishing are being rewarded with clonking fish to around 7lb on nymphs or small lures. The fish are still very close in.

We still have spaces left for our autumn open match on Sunday 27th September, you can just turn up on the day if you wish but a call to the Ranger on 07747 640707 to register makes it easier for us to plan the catering.

Farmoor Report w/e 20th Sept 09

Farmoor I levels remain almost full. Water has cleared with little algae. There are still only a few anglers fishing but those that do are being rewarded with fish to 7lb on buzzers and daddies. There are loads of fry by the inlet and draw off tower, a small fry pattern in amongst these smay well produce a monster brown. Rod average is currently 3.

Farmoor II now has low water but it is fairly clear. Fish to 4lb are being taken on the bank with very small buzzers (size 16 or even 18), most fish are only a rod length or so out. The boats are catching some rising fish in the evenings on either emerger patterns such as Bob’s Bits or daddies.

Don't forget the match this Sunday! All welcome.

Farmoor Report w/e 27/9/09

Water levels remain low with some algae growth on brighter days.

Farmoor I again remains very quiet with few anglers fishing. Those that do are finding good fish on nymphs and buzzers with some also coming from the surface to emergers and daddies.

Farmoor II has seen the fishing improve greatly as the week has drawn on. Rod average for the whole week was 2.6, with it reaching 5.4 on Sunday. Fish to 4lbs being taken either on small buzzers fished static/slowly in the margins or black boobies at various depths depending on the weather.

Our Autumn Open match on Sunday was a great success with 28 anglers having some amazing sport. Most fish were taken on the booby but some were also taken on buzzers despite the sun beating down on a flat calm Farmoor.

1st Roy Palmer 17 fish 30lbs 4oz
2nd John Nicholls 15 fish 26lb 4oz
3rd Ed Trickett 11 fish 22lb 7oz

Best fish on the day fell to Brian Butler with a rainbow of 3lb 6.5oz.

The rod average for the match was a staggering 7.6!

Can anyone tell me if the water level has come up in Farmoor2 yet? They were pumping in when I took a stroll round on Saturday 26 Sept but there was quite a lot of scum and algae. Have things changed much?

Hi 6by2, was there early last week (Tue) and the water level is still down, but it is clear and clean, with the exception of a little scum on the very edge of the windward bank. There are a decent few fish being caught, mostly still to buzzers under a bung, but I had some success on a DI5 and two boobies pulled slow and deep, although most of the takes were timid and only a couple stuck, I still enjoyed a swift 4 hours before going to work!!
Cheers

Farmoor Report w/e 11/10/09

Water levels are now rising in both reservoirs. There is very little algae now. Water temp is 15 Celcius.

Farmoor 2 is now fishing very well with a weekly rod average of 3.0 Fish to 5 ½ lbs have been taken on small black buzzers, pearly PTN and black boobies. Still no fry feeding going on but some fish are now feeding on daddies following the recent rain.

Farmoor 1 is very slow with odd fish to 8lbs being taken on nymphs or small lures.

Farmoor Report w/e 18/10/09

Water levels are now fairly full with water being pumped into F1 and then equalising into F2. Water is pretty clear with algae only on the windward banks. Temperature is 15 Celcius.

Farmoor 1
Still very quiet but odd fish to 8lb on small lures or PTNs.

Farmoor 2
Fishing its head off at the moment. 2 boat anglers had 12 fish for 42lb on Monday including rainbows of 8lb and 6lb. They fished by the cages on sinking lines and boobies with just a 9” leader so the fish are obviously hugging the bottom. Bank anglers are catching plenty of fish on floating lines and buzzers or PTN, as well as the usual booby. Rod average for the week is 3.
