What s... weather! Keep thinking i've gone back in a time warp and its November!
Anyway, on to the fishing reports!
Farmoor II As you would expect, the cold weather not helping the bank fishing. Fish have moved out to deeper water and so the boats are having the better time of it, with some great fish being caught - 20lb 11oz bag for 8 fish from Saturday's match (see the results of Saturday's match in the Events thread for more detail). Still on buzzers.
Farmoor I Still fishing well in the evenings, with the fish coming up higher in the water and taking Diawl Bachs.
Hope to have some better news when the weather warms up later this week. JW |

At last!!! some good news from the Rangers - the water temp is coming up to where it should be at this time of year and the fishery is back up to form. The bank fishing has really come on, today especially has been really busy at the fishery with lots of new faces.
Farmoor II has seen prime quality fish being taken from the bank, many around the 5lb-6lb, with fish taking much closer to the bank and feeding through the day, rather than early morning/evening. Boat fishing has picked up again too.
Farmoor I, well as you can see from the other reports, its been pretty consistent with the quality and quantity of fish, great to say this is still the case - as the many anglers fishing it today will agree.
Hope to see many of you over the weekend, and please do give us some feedback and post your own story - you've all gone very quiet over the last couple of weeks, even though I know you're reading the reports, I'm sure everyone would like to hear what oether's have to say. Tight Lines JW |

Tuesday 3rd June - 18:00
Please see the revised post regarding changes to the opening times, was given wrong information and record now set straight.
This aside, the rest of the news from the fishery is great!
Farmoor II Fished really well over the weekend, rod average is 3, with some great fish being caught. Its great that its coming on at last, despite the weather.
Farmoor I Stunning was how one person described this to me. Rod average around 5, with one lucky angler bagging 26 fish in one day! Wow, am booking in for this weekend for sure.
One small change on this water. The take 1 fish is being revoked, it will be purely a catch & release water. This is to accommodate a study being carried out on the fish in Farmoor I, with all new stocked fish being tagged. Will keep you posted on this.

p.s. fluffchucker - glad you sorted out the posting problems, if it happens again, just go to the contact us link in the main site and send me an email. Its great to read everyone else's reports and stories.
Just to give you a comparison on fishing venues, fished Rutland (boat) on Saturday with the ladies national champion, great fun for me and fantastic place, but the fishing was off (and not just me, thank you!) - boats were really struggling. Then fished Eyebrook (bank)on Sunday, England Ladies were there for a boat competition, don't think many of them took a fish, I certainly didn't off the bank - everyone I spoke to said the weather was having an adverse effect on the fishing at most venues, so Farmoor is doing pretty well in comparison.
p.s. I haven't abandoned my favourite fishery, just taking the opportunity to try other places and improve my skills, especially with such good tutors as Sue Shaw and Sue Hunter. Hope to see some of you over the coming weekend. JW |

Good Day all, The Royal Air Force CGAA Southern League fished their No 4 Match on Farmoor II yesterday 05 June from the boats starting at 10.00 and finishing at 18.00. A mixed day of weather, warm and sunny with interspersed cloudy periods with an average temp of about 18 deg C made for an interesting day with mixed bags to show for it. Most fish fell to a boobie/blob/nymph combo on a DI 5, and pulled fairly fast after a count of 15. There were a few fish fell to pure nymphing tactics, but on the whole the fish seemed to want moving flies. Black/Green or Orange Tequila's were the favored colours, with all areas of the water producing fish. In all 13 Anglers representing RAF Brize Norton, RAF Lyenham, RAF Benson and RAF Saint Athan participated.
Results were: 1st- Ian Aston of Raf Brize Norton with 08 Fish for 20lb03 oz. 2nd- Ian Baker also of RAF Brize Norton with 08 Fish for 17lb 02 oz. 3rd- Stu Yeates of RAF Lyneham with 05 fish for 12lb 09 oz.
Heaviest Fish fell to Bob McKay of RAF Brize Norton and was 3lb 05 oz.
Total number of fish caught was 47 to 13 anglers giving a rod avg of 3.6. Total wieght of fish caught was 110lb 08 oz, giving an avg weight of about 2lb 05 oz. Excellent weight and rod avg I am sure you will agree and all fish in superb condition, fighting well above their weight, fin and tail perfect. Many thanks to The Farmoor Staff, helpful and informative as always, bright and cheerful with it!! All anglers are looking forward to returning to Farmoor II in September, when Daddies and Fry Patterns usually produce cracking good sport. |
Cheers All Bob |

Fished Farmoor II last Friday. Had a couple of pulls during the day on Diawl Bachs. After 6pm took 4 fish on Black Buzzers using a steady figure of 8 retrieve after counting down 10 seconds. Fished in the top right corner when looking from the lodge.
Fish fought extremely hard and wonderful finish to a great day out.

Friday 13 June - 18:15
Farmoor II Fishing still improving, with Rod average 2 over the last couple of days. Fish have moved in towards bank and many being caught between the bank and weed bed on small nymphs - PT and buzzers. Boats continuing to do reasonably well.
Farmoor I Unfortunately I have to report that I'd recommend you DON'T come to fish this water this weekend. I believe that Thames Water pumping requirements have meant water is being taken from this water only and the levels have dropped significantly!! Also there is now a brown algae bloom.
Fishery management can't do anything about these priorities, but they hope that things will be back to normal end of next week - water will be pumped back in. Until then its really rather pointless to fish it!!
Such a shame as Farmoor I was receiving rave reviews from anglers all over the country. Will keep you posted.

FARMOOR I - CLOSED THIS WEEK
Following on from my report above, Farmoor I is to be closed temporarily until the water levels and quality improves. This is very disappointing for everyone - for those of you who've fished this water, you will know how superb the fishing has been since it first opened in April this year.
The quality of the river water that is pumped into both I and II cannot always be controlled. As you know the appalling weather we have been having has caused flash floods and all sorts of quality issues result with the water being pumped in. They do their best not to pump during flood conditions I believe, but sometimes demands on supply mean they have to.
Will keep you posted as to the situation. Jw |

Sorry folks away at the moment so not able to give you fishing updates. Perhaps one of you would post an update from the weekend - how's Farmoor II fishing? Is Farmoor I still closed?
Over to you for some feedback. JW |

| Hi, Farmoor 1 re opened a few days ago, not sure how it is fishing. I can tell you that Farmoor 2 is fishing poorly at the moment due to heavy pumping (colouration of the water) the rod average was 0.5 on the 20/6, i have blanked 3 out of 3 (short trips) and the log over the last week shows slow times for all. |

WEDNESDAY 2 JULY - 23:00
Hi folks, sorry to abandon you but been on long awaited hols! Fully refreshed I decided to take a trip down to Farmoor 2 yesterday evening and find out what's going on for myself.
Well what can I say...... what a fabulous evening fishing!! Plenty of us out last night, season and day ticket holders - many had been there most of the day. Lots of fish being caught, early afternoon I believe had a good rise, went a little quiet late afternoon, but 7pm onwards - they were going mad! Couldn't recast fast after getting a fish on! Saying that I did fail to keep 3 fish on, very girlie and didn't think to check the fly hook until the 3rd! Sure enough was bent! I do learn from my mistakes though!!
Diawl Bachs were doing the job earlier in the day, but mine fell to a small dun coloured daddy, as did many others from the signing-out shed stories. Fish were high in the water and not very far out either - despite the lack of weed growth close in.
Rod average over the week is 3, but reckon it may be higher by the weekend. Most of the other anglers near me were taking 5-6 fish, not less than 2lb and up to 5lb.
A thoroughly enjoyable evening and highly recommended. Sorry no news on Farmoor I, in all the fun forgot to ask :-)
Perhaps someone could post in and let us know how its fishing.

| I fished yesterday for the first time in several weeks. I had to take my mother to Stansted and detoured on the way home. I had a look round at first and while both reservoirs were very clear there was a gale blowing and fishing was obviously going to be tricky. The anglers on F2 looked less than enthusiastic which does not give much encouragement, so I had a look at F1. Three guys fishing there who told me they had had a very good day with fish to 5lbs plus, but the strong gusty wind was making things very awkward. In a strong westerly F1 is more exposed than F2. I went back to the lodge for more information and it appeared that F2 gets better towards the evening while F1 tends to fish better during the day. Decision made I had a 6 fish ticket and headed back to F2 - the first car park. Here, as I arrived I saw a fish being caught, so there were fish about at least. I fished close to marker 6 and caught a fish after about 20 minutes, but for the next hour the wind became really awkward - swirling around and sometimes appearing to blow in three directions at once. This made presentation all but impossible and this was confirmed by the lack of takes. I moved up to the next car park by the boat dock and then walked further up towards the farm bend. Here the wind was at least consistently off my right shoulder. I simply chucked out and had barely got my butt onto my seatbox when a fish just tore off with the middle fly. It soon became apparent that there were a lot of fish in that area. I completed my 6 fish comfortably enough despite being broken off once by a good fish which leapt several times after he had stolen my middle and point flies. Lots of very subtle takes or little "dinks" which I had no chance to hit, but those that wanted it left me in no doubt whatsoever. Successful flies were a lightly weighted olive Pheasant Tail on the point, a Red Wire buzzer on the middle and a JC Diawl Bach on the top and all caught fish. As usual it's "location, location". Find the fish and the rest becomes a whole lot easier. |
