Farmoor II
Just a brief update as the fishery is still very quiet at the moment - not many of you seem to be out and about?
Water levels are now rising and the water is clearing well (there was a brown algae in the water last week). Fish are being caught, but I can't give a rod average as too few people fishing (and some of you are still not filling in the returns book!).
The new Season Tickets are now on sale, I understand many of you have already renewed. Those that haven't, remember you need to bring a passport photo with the payment.
BOATS: the policy has still not been resolved - boats are only available on weekends and when two rangers are present. Note: Boats only available on Saturday this weekend - 28th Feb.

Sunday 1st March (St. David's Day for you non Welsh!)
Fishing is still hard, but many of you seemed to have more luck than me. Just don't think I got the distance needed to find them (that's my excuse anyway).
Seemed to be a few good fish coming out, bank was doing better than the boats though. Despite the hard work, didn't seem to be too many complaints from the people I spoke to - after all its still winter and most places aren't open for the season yet. Weather was great and a good day out for most people. Who ever said fishing was easy!
Dates for your diary: - Farmoor I reopens on Saturday 14th March - Spring pairs match - Sunday 22nd March - provisional and this may move when they realise it's Mothering Sunday - though many of you might like this as an excuse :-)

ALL BOAT FISHING CANCELLED UNTIL FURTHER NOTICE
Sorry folks, but changes in staffing and working practices means Thames Water have cancelled all boat fishing until further notice.
I am trying to find out if this is likely to be a couple of weeks (ie the match willl still be on later this month) or if this is likely to go on for a while - will let you know as soon as I get a response from Mr Prior.
NOT A HAPPY CAMPER!!! jw |

It seems that the minute a certain person gets back involved the whole thing goes to rat sh*t!! Doe she work for a rival company at the same time?? Great way to lose customers through the lean winter months, I for one cannot motivate myself to Bankfish at this time of year.

Hi Bob,
Hope that's a spelling error in your post!! ie "Doe she work for a rival .....", trust that should be "Does he ......"
being the only female around, thought I would check! I'll take it as the latter and would have to agree with your statement!
Hopefully it will be resolved as per other reservoirs, ie. you sign a disclaimer saying you will be careful, but if you drown its tough luck!
Don't give up on the Bank, its doing better than the boats at the moment and the water is getting much clearer. If your casting distance is good, you can still catch some reasonable fish (5lb odd). Don't forget Farmoor I opens on the 14th March too.

I can only agree with the sentiments expressed. What's happening with the world? I can only assume that Thames Water now sees the fly fishing community as a pain in the backside and no longer worth the effort. Farmoor was a bastion of excellence and variety, offering friendly staff, boat, bank, C&R, superb fish and value for money in one location (worth an hour's drive both ways for me)! Now the rangers are under threat and the boats are history (temporarily?...let's see). Next thing is that they'll copy Severn Trent Water at Foremark and confine us to a smaller section of the bank in case a passing twitcher gets an accidental feather earring. But I have to wonder whether health, safety and money are the real issues. It's all very sad - thank goodness we can let off a bit of steam on the Forum! |

| To all boat users, I am equally P---sed off with the situation and have written a letter of complaint and sent it to john Liddard at Thames Water. The more complaints Mr. Liddard gets, the more chance someone will listen to us. Please email john.liddard@thameswater.co.uk and make yourself heard. I don't want to have to drive for 2 hours to go fishing when this great facility is here, and out of bounds to us. |

| No messing now, you must all get in touch with John Liddard at the email listed above. You need to resolve this problem with pressure on the powers that be. Believe me, John is on your side and knows the people he wants to aid him. He will collate your emails. I honestly belive that if you want fishing at Farmoor for years to come you need to email John saying you need a certain ranger who has not been there for a couple of weeks reinstated to sort this mess out. Otherwise..... |

Its a real shame - Farmoor was coming on great again as a fishery in the last few years with quality fish and fishing to be had. I don't use the boats much but do fear that bank anglers will be the next to feel the wrath of the H&S brigade at TW.
There seems to be a current trend with some water authorities to mess with things using H&S as an excuse. Have they not heard of disclaimers?
As for the bank - I do hope I am being a pesemist as FI was on fire last season at times.....

The boat fishing is being reinstated as of tomorrow BUT with limited number of boats until all the new systems are in place, which will be within a week hopefully.
See my post in Thames Water Statements for all the details .......... JW |

FISHING REPORT - 17 MARCH
Farmoor II General: good to see that Farmoor is getting back to form for this time of year. The water quality is good and the levels are almost back to normal with some weed growth at last - we've even had some good buzzer hatches in the warm weather. However there's still a lot of Daphnia about at the moment.
Boats: are doing well and many achieving their bag limits, largest fish of a boat on Sunday was 9lb 4oz. Please note that there are now 6 boats available from the pontoon, however only 8 life jackets at the moment. The remainder of the jackets are due in any day. Remember to book.
Bank: coming on, rod average for the last few days is 1.6, with a few caught on buzzers.
FARMOOR I Great start to the season, its fishing really well with many catching bags into double figures. Fish weight average between 4lb-9lb and again many caught on buzzers, though they are still fairly deep.
As the fine weather looks set to continue through the week and the weekend (lets see!) - hope you all get a chance to visit during the coming week.

FISHING REPORT 24 MARCH Farmoor II For those of you who managed to take a trip to Farmoor at the weekend, you will have seen the huge buzzer hatches out on the reservoir! Add this to the daphnia growth at the moment and the fish are understandably preoccupied with the natural food that's about. Having said that, try something Orange and drop it at the right level and you're in with a better chance.
So rod average is still low, but some are still managing to take the bag limit - they must be doing something right!
Forgot to add that they now have 6/7 boats available during the week and weekends. The rest to follow shortly.
Farmoor I
Farmoor I is a totally different water to II, without the daphnia and prolific buzzer hatches, the fish are much hungrier. It's fishing really well with a rod average of around 5-6 with the largest fish on the weekend being 9lb 6oz.
Note: see my post under "Events" JW

FISHING REPORT - WEDNESDAY 8 APRIL
Glad to report that both waters have really come on well over the last couple of weeks!
Farmoor II Good fishing off the bank and from the boats. Bank try floating lines, long leaders, PTNs, nymphs and buzzers which have all been doing well.
Water level is now back to full and clear, no algae growth and with the rain showers over the weekend it will hopefully remain that way. Rod average 2.3
Note: If you want to boat fish, you must book! if you just turn up, you will probably find that they are all booked out! Trout Masters Fish Off at Farmoor on Saturday 11th - so most boats booked out.
Farmoor I Again doing well and the word is spreading, last Saturday saw the angler limit reached for the first time this season.
Similar tactics to Farmoor II. Huge buzzer hatches at the moment.
Happy Easter and tight lines. JW |
