I've been asked to post these by Thames Water - both their site and the main part of this site will be updated asap. JW
Farmoor Reservoir 2010-11 Season Ticket Prices
Season Ticket - £600
200 fish ticket. Catch as many fish as you like until the limit is used up. No rainbow trout to be returned. £150 top ups are available for 50 fish more.
Midweek Season Ticket - £450
150 fish ticket and only available Monday-Friday. £150 top ups are available for 50 fish more.
Releasing Season Ticket - £600
This ticket enables you to fish as often as you like operating catch and release and taking a maximum of 5 fish per week (Mon-Sun). All normal flies are allowed but they must have barbless hooks only. Rod rests are banned with this ticket and the rod must be held at all times. Once the 5th fish of the week is taken the angler cannot fish until the start of the following week.
Good catch and release practise must be followed – see Farmoor I rules.
Releasing Midweek Ticket - £450
This ticket enables you to fish as often as you like operating catch and release and taking a maximum of 3 fish per week. All normal flies are allowed but they must have barbless hooks only. Rod rests are banned with this ticket and the rod must be held at all times. Once the 3rd fish of the week is taken the angler cannot fish until the start of the following week.
Good catch and release practise must be followed – see Farmoor I rules.
In 2010-11, anglers purchasing any of the above season tickets may fish Farmoor I, operating total catch and release, one day per week. Anglers must abide by the Farmoor I rules.

| So which part of this years "Matt Prior's Christmas match speech" didn't I understand????? Was it the bit where he said that the prices would be staying the same next year. Did I imagine that bit, or was the coca cola laced with vodka? |

With this years price increases it would seem that Thames Water do not want anglers to purchase season tickets!!!!! |

What a price increase Why cant we have a weekend part season ticket for those of us that can only fish at weekends. It would seem that a lot of anglers will now go to other fisheries |

It would be interesting to have an explanation from Thames Water as to why they've increased the cost and reduced the fish limit by such drastic amounts.
Is the increase to: - stock more fish? - increase the facilities (improve the lodge, offer tea/coffee facilities for anglers/gutting room) - improve the general facilities for anglers
Perhaps there are other cost increases that are similar large for other users, rather than just the regular anglers using the water? - is the rental cost for the sailing club increasing? - Are the parking costs increasing for other users? - Are the birdwatchers being charged for using the facility? has this increased? - What about a charge for people walking around the perimeter?
Surely if TW didn't want season ticket holders or wanted to deter the regular anglers at the water they would just abolish the season ticket altogether? The day ticket at £25 for 8 fish at a per fish price of £3.12 - so you'd almost be better off paying per fish caught now.
Last years season ticket was £450 taking 15 fish per week (ie a total 780 a year [52 weeks x 15 fish] - a per fish price of £0.57) This year £600 for 200 fish limit (ie equates to 3.8 fish per week [200 / 52 weeks - a per fish price of £3.00)
Whilst I can understand that £0.57 per fish is unsustainable, to increase the price by £150 and reduce the fish limit by 450 per year seems ill thought out.
As it stands at the moment, it is cheaper to buy the £600 release ticket with max 5 fish per week (ie 260 per year fish limit @ price per fish of £2.30) than it is the normal season ticket.
Any comments or feedback on this?

| Ah yes, an explanation would be nice, but can we have the truth and not just a load of "It's not my fault" comments from the Thames Water Spokesman please. Farmoor is a lovely place to fish, so why go and spoil it by hiking up the costs and deter people from visiting regularly. |

I agree an explanation would be nice, but dont expect the truth from Thames Water. BRYNDLE'S idea of a week end only season would be good as a lot of regular anglers can only fish at week ends. It would also be nice to know what the rod average for last season was |

How about suggesting a fee and fish limit for the weekend only season ticket then, I'm happy to pass this onto TW, although they do read the forum posts also.
From the feedback I've heard I don't think many people are up for paying the £600 for 200 fish!

How about £450 for a week end season ticket with a total limit of 120 fish. I know this would seem more expensive but i am sure more anglers would take this up !! |

| Its not fair to put pressure on the rangers, these decisions probably come from someone who has never even been to Farmoor, I expect that Max, Mark and Damian feel uncomfortable with what is going on, as it's them on the receiving end of our frustration and anger. i have had to bite the bullet and pay for a ticket, because Farmoor is my place of escape after a crap week at work, whatever the cost, it's worth it. |

You can't blame the rangers for TW strategy on the fishery. They're employees and probably have their own frustrations with TW!
TW is a huge corporate body with the bottom line of profit and shareholder value as their main drive. Water companies allow fishing, sailing and use of their reservoirs under what's called their Corporate Social Responsibility programmes - ie to get the public to think they're great and do lots for the community and environment (that is being a little unfair by the way!)
However even they can't have a business that runs at a huge loss continually. I should think at Farmoor its the proverbial "chicken & egg" syndrome - the site needs major investment both for fishing and sailing. The facilities are run down and there's no space - hence all the unsightly prefab huts everywhere for the sailing club. However if they can't attract more anglers and sailing folk then where does the money come from? BUT then the people won't come until the facilities and site is better. Farmoor's leisure operating costs will probably be heavily subsidised as it is (especially for the fishing).
Then you the local council who probably wouldn't allow development as it would mean more cars, so more parking and more traffic and building on designated green space. There are architects plans for a brand new building that have been on the go with TW for years now.
If you have a business plan or ways to improve things, including how its funded - I am sure they would be delighted to hear from you!
We all have the right to vote with our feet, if we don't like it we can go elsewhere (errr Draycote closed, nearest other reservoirs restricted bank angling, other small waters same day prices as Farmoor or more expensive).
Maybe if we can get the weekend only season ticket accepted that would go a long way to appeasing some of the regular weekenders? I am passing on the feedback to TW and the suggestions. JW
