Please be assured that the Rangers are fully aware of the concerns expressed here and at the fishery. We will pass on all the information supplied to us; we will also continue to provide the best possible service within our remit. The Rangers are not empowered to 'Make Deals' the latest pricing structure was produced as a result of TW's research and cost comparisons. It is suggested that any ideas/comments you may have which may improve or address the current issues should be sent via letter to the Farmoor Rangers Lodge. There are improvements planned for the facility this year and we are able to continue to supply some of the best quality sporting/eating fish to be found anywhere. There are few other sporting activities which offer the opportunity to use the facilities for 52 weeks of the year at less than £11.55per week. Thank you for your kind observations and I hope you will all continue to enjoy this TW facility during 2010. We have lost one of our team at the beginning of this month. Damien has decided to return to his other profession as a builder and then in a couple of months he and his family leave for a new life down under in Australia. We all wish them well for the future.

Actually I think the £600 catch & release ticket is not bad value and compares favourably with prices charged at other Midland fisheries. Catch as many as you like but only keep 5 a week seems reasonable enough to me, but then I don't eat many trout and don't like having a freezer full of fish I can't use. On a price per hour basis it's a whole lot cheaper than a season ticket at even a modest Premier League or Championship football club and you get a lot more days for the money.
Surprising how many people will happily part with lots of money for a fishing rod, but baulk at the price for going somewhere to use it! |

After re-reading some of the earlier posts I can only hark back to a suggestion I made 12 months or more ago. There needs to be a Farmoor Reservoirs Fly Fishing Association. You'll find these at Chew and at the midlands reservoirs and they act as a consultative body in discussion with the water companies. I bet the sailing club at Farmoor is consulted over any changes in rules, facilities or prices and is able to negotiate on behalf of its members to ensure that those changes are fair and reasonable. Anglers are not, and to be absolutely frank, we get what we deserve. Do you really think that the sort of changes that have been made would have gone ahead if there had been an anglers' representative body to negotiate and to come up with alternative suggestions? Changes there would have been, but we as anglers would have been consulted and would have had the opportunity to put our case to ensure that those changes were beneficial.
As it stands, us anglers haven't got the sense to come in out of the rain. Our first bleat when asked for money is "what's in it for me?" Those five words are the sole reason we get ignored. I bet that not one in twenty anglers who use Farmoor is a member of the Angling Trust because of those five words. Twenty quid for membership and many people will p**s that away in one evening in the pub!
Wasn't it John F Kennedy who said something along the lines of "ask not what my country can do for me, but instead ask what can I do for my country"
To judge by the posts we won't be seeing Bryndle and Spindleberry at Farmoor again. Never mind - more for me to catch! |

| To those who never get a reply from TW, I asked them through the "contact us " button on their website one or two questions about Farmoor and got a reply in 2 weeks plus a call to my mobile on the subject. Could it be you ask a question which they take to be retorical? |

At this time there are no plans to introduce a season ticket for weekend anglers, I will put the proposal forward on your behalf. I am glad to see you are content with the value of your fish £ for lb. If it helps I have costed out the price of trout in the major supermarkets and find that without travelling and tackle costs they are the most cost efficient way to buy fish. We have to levy a small charge for the fishing facility.
We look forward to seeing your here again soon
All the best

An 8 fish limit for 27lb+ and the bloke can just about raise a smile! The place just doesn't deserve you.
One of the first things my father told me when I started fishing and shooting was that you do not put a cost on the fish you catch or the birds you shoot, and I never have. I count my days' fishing in terms of the enjoyment I get from it, not how much the fish are worth on the fishmonger's slab! Basically, if you can't afford it - don't do it.
Look around you. Reservoirs are being closed off to angling, especially from the banks, on "health & safety" grounds! We are an expensive luxury on a reservoir, and Thames Water or any other water company, are not in business as charities.
What is needed are a lot more posts saying how good the fishing is, and how much we enjoy the place, rather than whingeing about a few quid. I'm sure there are bean counters in some Thames Water office who would be only too happy to spare you the effort of parting with your few pennies. |
