Having spoken with Thames Water today, I am delighted to be able to report that they have managed to find a workable solution to the health & safety issues that were raised. They've apologised for any inconvenience this has caused over the last couple of weeks.

This solution will involve a number of measures:

- a disclaimer to be signed by all boat anglers, acknowledging the safety advice and the fact that there is no rescue service.
- new larger and higher specification life jackets - I think it will mean that you have to use the life-jackets issued by Thames Water and not your own (need to clarify this).
- a new mooring system for the boats that means anglers/rangers can access the boats easily from the pontoon (I believe this is called "outhaul mooring", but don't quote me - the boats are on a form of pulley system so that can be easily pulled onto the pontoon).

These new arrangements were finalised and agreed today, but Matt and the rangers have been able to put the above in place to allow the following:
- 2 boats to be available from tomorrow - Wednesday 11th March
- an additional 2 (hopefully) later this week
- the remaining boats available as the new life-jackets and improved mooring system can be put in place.

Note: They have 3 life-jackets in place already, the remainder have already been ordered with 14 due in early next week (the remainder to follow asap).

The mooring system is being "fine tuned" over the next week, but Matt Prior, the Rangers and the H&S team at Thames Water are all doing their best to reinstate the boats for us as quickly as possible.

As there will be limited use of boats for approximately the next week or so, PLEASE book your boat in advance!

My thanks go to Matt and his team for getting in touch and letting us know this good news - as I am sure you can appreciate, very large companies like Thames Water have an internal process that can be very frustrating to everyone!

So folks, tight lines if you're lucky to get the boats, i'll be ringing myself in the morning to book mine - actually thinking of it maybe I should have booked my boat THEN posted the update.

I am disappointed to see that a post I wrote on the subject of boats on Farmoor has not been entered. It was written on Sunday and today is Wednesday. I know you can only administer the site on a part-time basis, but there were some points there that would have been of interest to other members as well as to Thames Water.

On the subject of life jackets. I work for an organisation that provides me with the highest spec life jacket required for freshwater use, and moreover maintains it on a 3 monthly basis. I think I would rather wear that one than one that may have been worn by ten other people in the last week and last maintained when????

I wear this l/j on all other reservoir boat fisheries with no complaints whatever from their managements as it is usually better than the ones they provide.

Dear Angler,

As per most comments of this kind, its down to user error code ID 10 T. Your post is on the site, its simply on another thread - its under Thames Water Statements/Boat fishing/statement 4 March 09 - entitled Open Letter to all Involved - which is where you put it!

When you log into the forum and post comment, it is automatically added to the forum and does not get approved or edited by me! I check forum threads daily and remove any inappropriate comments and language made be users - so far I have not had to do this for any forum users.

Grovelling is accepted!

Well it seems we are to have some of the boats back, JW, I'm really greatful for keeping us all informed of the situation but please stop refering to Matt Prior and his team of Rangers, Matt Prior has done everything he could to frustrate any progress that isn't attributed to him, you should have heard how he spoke of himself and his achievements as he recently drove around Farmoor. To all fellow anglers, please don't be fooled by his claims he is not the answer for Farmoor. Even the twitchers have had enough of him!!!! We deserve better than him.
